January Book Orders

January book orders are being sent home today so make sure to check them out.  Scholastic sent me a two new flyers that I had never seen before.  The first one is called "Click" and it's an interactive learning catalog filled with computer games, board games, and fun science and discovery kits.  The other new one is called "Storia" and it's filled with eBooks.  I don't know if any of you have a family ipad, kindle, etc. but I thought it might be helpful for those of you who do.

Once again, let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks for being so supportive!

Sincerely,

We love reading!

My class can read and we love reading!   know I probably sound nerdy for being so excited about it, but I love watching your kids learn.  They grow so much every day and it's been really fun to teach them this year.  I feel so blessed to be at Liberty Academy teaching kindergarten because I have an awesome class and great parents to work with.  Thank you so much for helping me love my job so much.

When I was younger I never really liked reading because I was always told to read specific books in school and I thought they were boring.  Since being a student at BYU, I have learned to love reading and my goal this year is to help your children LOVE to read.  I feel that if I can instill a love for learning in your children when they're in kindergarten, they will do great in school and will be very successful in life!

Always, Mrs. Calton

End of 2012

Recently I realized that I have a lot of great ideas, but not enough time to accomplish everything I want to do.  Sadly, this blog has been one of those great ideas that I haven't really kept up with.  I'm trying to be better about it with the new year, but it's been a little crazy trying to keep up at school, at home, and with both of my blogs (my husband and I have a family blog too).

Because I'm trying to catch up on this blog for the new year, I've decided to just put some pictures of my class up from the past couple months.  I hope you have fun looking at the cute pictures of your kids... we've had a blast!

No David!

This week we have been learning about the author David Shannon who wrote "No, David", "Alice the Fairy", and several other fun books that my class loves.  Today we made No David puppets.  It was a quick project, but it was fun to see my class with each of their interpretations of David.  It was also really fun to see them interact with each other as they played with their puppets.  I really do have the cutest class in the world.  I'm one lucky teacher.

Happy Halloween!

I've always loved Halloween, but since I've gotten a older the excitement has died down a little bit.  My husband Matt isn't a huge fan of dressing up, but luckily he's a good sport if I ask him nicely and get his costume all ready.  This year we dressed up as Where's Waldo and Where's Wenda (she's the girl in the books) and it was fun to get dressed up together, but it was also really fun to dress up at school with all the kids.  Sadly I forgot to take a picture with our whole class in our Halloween costumes so I've decided to put up a picture of my husband and I and some pictures of some of my students so that you can put the pieces together and imagine our whole class.

Messy learning

Things in class have been a little messy lately.  First we practiced our letters in shaving cream...

Then about a week ago we read the book "Elmer".  In case you're not familiar with it, it's a story about an elephant that feels out of place because he is the complete opposite of all the other elephants.  After we read the story we talked about how we're all different and it's a good thing to be different. Then I decided to do something a little crazy.  Thanks to my father-in-law I have a bunch of butcher paper in my classroom so I thought that it'd be really fun if we drew ourselves on paper and decorated each of our outlines differently to show that each of us our different, but we're all special.  My students did a great job and they LOVED this activity.  We've done a lot of body outlines right now, but it's been a lot of fun... messy, but fun.  Here's my class and their look alikes :)
